Glockner - The Race

Glockner - The Race is an Event for winter sports enthusiasts in Europe.

Glockner - The Race

In the foreground is the highest mountain in Austria, "The Glockner" with 3,798m. Unique as the mountain is, is also the ski area Grossglockner/Heiligenblut, where skiing has been going on in the face of the Grossglockner since 1958.
In the course of time, the first lifts were built, such as the Tauernberg T-bar lift.
However, even before this time there was a ski race that caused a sensation. The "Grossglockner Race" - with the first start in 1933 - was known both nationally and internationally.
At that time, daring participants plunged down from the summit of the Glockner to the Pasterzen glacier in a wide variety of snow and weather conditions.
In 1967, the race on the Grossglockner took place for the last time and left a gap that could not be filled until now.

On 04 March 2023, the event "The Glockner-The Race" will again take place in the ski resort.
This year it will be an individual competition.

"The Glockner - The Race" is a unique event, which already speaks for itself:

  • No comparable event in Austria
  • 1 day - 1 summit - 1 race
  • Individual classification
  • A race for all skiing enthusiasts over 18 years of age
  • Unique event venue at the foot of the highest mountain in Austria
  • 1,100 meters of altitude
  • Steeper, faster and more challenging
  • Separate women's classification
